When Rolanda applies for a job at Hogwarts, it's Minerva's task to interview her. Their meeting is overshadowed by memories of the past.
I do love a story of ladies with a History, and this one delivers. The glimpses of (sexist, classist) wizarding society are tantalizing, and the power of memory is very real and visceral here. Each woman deals in her own way with the prejudices that affect their choices--Rolanda bristling, Minerva internalizing and adapting. Minerva's misunderstanding of Rolanda's sexuality is heartbreaking, as is Rolanda's sacrifice.
