Privacy Policy

I like privacy (hence, my pen name, “Squibstress”), and I’m guessing you do too. I have a long, professionally vetted privacy policy that conforms to all U.S. and European requirements for websites, which you can read below.

Here’s the short version:

What Data Do I Collect?

Depending on what you do on this site (comment, download content, share content via social media), I may collect the following:

  • Your name (or whatever name you put in the little comment box)
  • Your email address
  • Your website URL
  • Your computer’s or mobile device’s IP address

Why Do I Collect Your Data?

I don’t really want to collect your data, but it’s unavoidable if I’m going to do certain internet-y things, like:

  • Allow you to comment on blog posts
  • Respond if you contact me via my “contact me” page
  • Allow you to share my content via social media
  • Understand how visitors interact with this site

What Do I Do with Your Data?

Nothing too scary.

I may use the data to:

  • Respond to a comment or an inquiry
  • Provide you with content (e.g., free downloads) upon your request

What About Cookies?

Cookies are itty-bitty files with tiny amounts of data including an anonymous unique identifier that a website sends to your computer’s hard drive when you are viewing a website. Most websites use them.

They allow me (actually, the little men that live in the interwebs) to identify your computer for the purpose of seeing what you look at on my site. Cookies can also allow this site to recognize your computer when it returns to the site, which can make it easier for you to revisit pages or leave a comment.

By themselves, cookies can’t tell me who you are or reveal any personally identifying information about you. If I were an internet marketer, I could probably use them to gather lots of detailed information about your web browsing habits, but fortunately for both of us, I have no interest in doing that.

You can remove cookies and prevent your browser from permitting them by following a few simple steps, but be aware that telling your browser to prohibit all cookies can break the functionality of some websites. (Probably not this one, but I can’t swear to it.)

What Data Do I Share with Third Parties?

None, other than the non-personally-identifiable stuff that’s automatically shared with services that make this and many other websites tick, like and Google Analytics.

Social Media

Through, I have enabled social-media sharing of the content on this site. Each service has its own privacy policy, and I recommend you check them out. Facebook knows a scary amount of stuff about all of us.

That pretty much sums it up. Bottom line: I don’t really want to know who you are, unless you want to interact with me, and then I only want to know your nom-de-internet and maybe your email addy. Other stuff gets collected automatically, but I would have no idea what to do with it if I wanted to.

Long Legalese Version
