Written for the dh2_challenge, this fic makes sense of the film's convoluted death scene for Severus, with its puzzling flashbacks, and the author manages to make far more of the moment than in either the book or film. It takes the somewhat troublesome trope of a Severus who spends his life pining away after a lost childhood love, and gives it meaning. The author shows us a Severus Snape just doing what he has to do to survive; a man who fully understands the horror of his situation and is powerless to change it.
