Music is one of the most common. I don’t listen to music while I write, but I do use it for inspiration, especially when writing a period piece. I listened to a lot of music from the 1940s and 1950s when writing the Epithalamium Series. You can listen to some of the songs that inspired me on my Spotify playlists.
As I write, I collect images to get a sense of what characters and settings might look like. You can see some of them on my Pinterest boards.
